I am a huge fan of printing up articles I enjoy online. I figure I read enough on my monitor without all those hours staring at a screen. And if it is worth the read it might be worth the reread, too!!
I’ll often skim an article while looking at it online. And if it strikes me as worthwhile reading, I’ll copy and paste to a word doc to print up and read later. Depending on all the ads it might come out very messy with broken text and patchy outcome. This is sort of a pain but it was worth it to me.
But I just came across a nifty tool called Print Friendly an online application that allows you to make a printed or PDF version of your article of choice. Already has my attention but now here’s the bonus:
It is intelligent enough to just extract the text and associated images WITHOUT the ads!!! Imagine that! Not only that it will allow you to take out entire paragraphs in the event that you don’t want to print up the whole article. Pure genius I think!
There are several ways to use it: enter a URL right on their site, add a browser button in your favorites and finally, you may add a Print Friendly button to your WordPress blog posts (you can give it a test drive using the button on my site just below the post)!
